Confidentiality & Privacy

As a client, you are entitled, by law, to privacy. This means that any information provided to me, whether by e-mail, telephone, or in my office is considered to be confidential information, and cannot be revealed to anyone else, without your written permission. The exception to this is my legal responsibility, as a mental health practitioner, to break confidentiality if 1) there is reason to suspect child abuse or 2) a client makes a serious, believable threat to harm him/herself or others.

In terms of online security, I would recommend the following:

• Avoid sending e-mail to me from your workplace, since employers have the right to access and view your e-mail.
• When using a home computer, safeguard your privacy by making sure you are the only one with access to your e-mail account.
